Social Media and Young People's Mental Health
Writing Task 2
Question
Many young people use social media for several hours a day. To what extent is this a negative development for their mental health?
Model Answer
Spending a long time on social media can make young people compare their lives to others, which may increase anxiety. Cyberbullying is also a real problem on some platforms. However, social media can help teenagers stay connected with friends and find support groups. I think the impact depends on how the apps are used; in many cases, heavy uncontrolled use is negative, but with limits it can be neutral or even positive.
